The beginning …. An introduction

Indian Community Welfare Organization is a registered voluntary organization was established in 1994. It was out of deep and abiding concern for marginalized and exploited women in difficult circumstances in India. The focus was on working with commercial sex workers and their clients and certain other target groups with the ultimate aim of empowering them. ICWO is doing a considerable amount of work in the field of STD / HIV / AIDS prevention with the aid of several dedicated volunteers, the constant encouragement and support of the government. Yet there are several mountains to climb.

Aims and Objectives of ICWO

  1. To increase the knowledge about STD / HIV / AIDS and prevention to various target groups.
  2. To reduce the prevalence and incidents of STD / HIV / AIDS among the high risk groups
  3. To improve the quality of STD care and treatment to target groups.
  4. To trigger off the male and female sex workers and their clients to practice safe sex.
  5. To motivate the other affiliated groups of the prime target groups as agents for changes.
  6. To ensure distribution and availability of good quality condoms among the target groups.
  7. To create alternative employment for sex workers.
  8. To generate community support for programmes organized by ICWO
  9. To increase the quality of life of sex workers and their children.
  10. To ensure enjoyment of basic rights of sex workers and their childrens.
